Inclusion of children with specific educational needs has been a much discussed issue in the pre-school education in the Czech Republic. However, good training materials for teachers are still missing. I hope that the ETTECEC project will bring some useful information and guidelines on how to educate autistic children and how to deal with some difficult situations in the classroom.
Tell us about your experience and needs working with autistic children and dealing with school issues
I have been working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders for the past ten years. I feel that there is a great need for special teaching aids and spaces (e.g. relaxation corner) and for trained teachers. In common pre-schools there are not any teaching aids for autistic children and teachers have to make them themselves.
Why are you interested in the ETTECEC project?
I hope that the ETTECEC project will bring some useful information and guidelines on how to educate autistic children and how to deal with some difficult situations in the classroom.
Why do you think that it is necessary to develop a training for pre-school teachers?
Inclusion of children with specific educational needs has been a much discussed issue in the pre-school education in the Czech Republic. However, good training materials for teachers are still missing.
What would be the project’s most valuable information/tool/result for you?
I would most value:
- sharing information and experience with other teachers;
- inspiration and suggestions for educational activities aimed at autistic children;
- advice on how to handle difficult situations while working with autistic children in a class.
