I think that a training for pre-school teachers is much needed because behaviour of autistic children is very specific and unusual in many situations. It can be sometimes very difficult to deal with them. That is why it is important to be well prepared. I think that everything that could help integrate these children into “normal” life is valuable: trainings, workshops, meeting with other parents, teachers, sharing experience, specialized books.

Tell us about your experience and needs parenting your autistic child and dealing with school issues?

I have a 4-year-old girl who has been recently diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). An autistic child definitely needs an individual approach. I have learned that you can never push hard on such a child (e.g. “come quickly, stop doing whatever you are doing and come now…). I know that I have to speak to my daughter in a calm way and leave her to finish her activity. But sometimes it is very hard.

Why are you interested in the ETTECEC project?

I hope that I will learn something new about ASD diagnosis and how I can help my daughter with school integration.

Why do you think that it is necessary to develop a training for pre-school teachers?

I think that a training for pre-school teachers is much needed because behaviour of autistic children is very specific and unusual in many situations. It can be sometimes very difficult to deal with them. That is why it is important to be well prepared. I think that everything that could help integrate these children into “normal” life is valuable: trainings, workshops, meeting with other parents, teachers, sharing experience, specialized books.

What would be the project’s most valuable information/tool/result for you?

I would most value:

  • videos showing how to handle various situations;
  • information on accessible specialized books on PDD diagnosis;
  • to get in contact with other people with similar problems;
  • have possibility to get the information straight from my home (I don´t have time to browse through internet to look out useful information).
